I use this to fill a cooler before going to the beach each day. It works as advertised. Basically plug it in, fill with water and the ice starts coming. I just wish it stored more. I have to empty and put cubes in the freezer two or three time before having enough to pack a large beach cooler. It def beats making an ice run every day.

This is our second one of these. The first one worked great for almost 2 yrs. We bought a new one because it would have cost almost as much to fix it. Let's hope that this one lasts longer. It is awesome when it is in its prime. Hopefully Danby will start to offer an extended warranty in the US.

Great ice maker for our dispatch office. We don't have the space for a full size refrigerator so we have small ones. We were able to place the ice maker on top of our refrig. It makes it very conveinent for us to always have ice since we rarely are able to leave dispatch.

We like round ice cubes. When our ice maker died, we tried to replace it and found out that round ice cube makers are no longer made. So, we decided to get this ice maker. Three of the buckets fill our normal refrigerator ice tray. I usually run the ice maker for a day and fill the ice tray and several two gallon bags. I try to make enough to last us for a week. Then I drain it so it will not have any water standing (so the water won't grow things). I also try to clean it at least once/week. I read that you do not need to let the water stand in the machine more than 12 hours, so I will sometimes space the ice making out so that the water doesn't sit longer than that, but I don't have to drain or clean it.

We chose this ice maker over others because it comes with an 18 month warranty. If it messes up in the first 18 months, you TAKE IT IN to a repair place close to where you live, they will repair it, and send the bill to Danby (be sure to keep your receipt in a handy place). If you fill out the online warranty info, you get an extra two months warranty (so ups you to 20 months). You never have to mail this BIG machine back in for repairs (which would cost YOU about $40-50.00 each time)- and most other ice machines only give you a 3-12 month warranty. So- before you buy it, I'd call and find out the closest Danby icemaker repair place (they have a lot). If there is once close to you (we live in a rural location, but there are still 2 withing 45 minutes of us), then this is a good deal.

I have had the machine for about 3 months and only had a problem once. The "something is wrong" light came on and I called the help number and they were no help, they just told me I'd have to take it into the closest repair place. Instead, I unplugged it, left it off for awhile, then cleaned it, and it has worked fine ever since. It is rather big, and takes some attention for upkeep, but even with 7 kids, it is not that big of a deal to use and take care of. It is not the easiest to drain, so we attached a hose to the drain and a cut off valve, so we can drain it without having to get access to the back of the machine.

Perfect for camping. Even in the desert @ 100 degrees it was pumimg out ice as if it were in the kitchen @ 68 degrees.
Not wanting to leave it at the campsite, I just put it in the backseat of the truck and went serious off-roading in the Anza Borrego desert. Not a problem as the machine bucked up as we had to for an all day adventure.
Between camping and home use we were spending a lot of money on bags of ice...NO MORE.
So far..it's batting a 1000.

The only Con we see that for some reason we were unaware of is that it does not have refrigeration and storage enough to keep it all, however, it does perform great, with expectations beyond what we expected and are very happy with our purchase. We use it only every 3 days to fulfill our needs. Large cubes are best

We recently bought the Danby Icemaker. We use huge amounts of ice and this machine keeps up. We make the large pieces and the machine keeps making ice every ten minutes till it runs out of water.It's perfect as we can use filtered water. Easy to make ice to store for later use.
We liked it so much, we bought one for our vacation home too.

Unfortunately, the storage bin is not cooled. The first ice cubes made are well on their way to melting before the last cubes are made.

I would recommend, after experimenting, using only the amount of water to make the amount of ice you need and use no more...

Only issue is-not enough storage space and when the ice is made-you have to move it into a freezer as it does not stay cold-I am in Florida and it is on our outside lanai as we dont have an ice maker in our fridge-we have it in a cool spot-but the sun is always out in Florida

GREAT: I use it to make ice in advance, filling containers in my freezer. It works well and quickly.
NOT SO GREAT: the owners manual says to empty left over water frequently. They caution about bacteria growing in water left in it over 12 hours. Draining the unit is no easy task. There's a small drain on the back - you drain into a container, or fashion a hose to a proper drain for it, or use a pump. It is VERY heavy and bulky. Tipping it to empty into a laundry sink is a two-person task. It is important to note that this unit does not keep cubes frozen - it is a 40-50 pound ice bucket! If you live alone, I would not recommend this unit.

About a year ago I found this ice maker online and purchased it. I have been very pleased with the performance in which it made ice very fast and at three different sizes. I have had no problem in keeping my freezer's ice maker full for a family of five. The other day the "problem light" came on and the ice maker was not operating. I called the company and spoke with a very nice and friendly person in which I told her of the problem. She gave me directions on running the cleaning cycle on the machine and that should fix the problem. I did as instructed in the manual but the machine was still not working. I think the bucket motor went bad because it was not moving during the cleaning cycle. I called the company back and was speaking to the same person I talked to a week before. I explained everything to her and she looked up the nearest repair location which turned out to be about 70 miles away. She told me that was to far for me to travel and told me to make out a note with my information on it and attach the serial number sticker from the machine and send it to her. She even instructed me on how to remove the sticker with a hair-dryer. What she told me next just blew me away in this day and age, she told me that when she received the note and sticker that she would send me a brand new ice maker AT NO COST TO ME WHAT-SO-EVER. I could not believe my ears. I asked her about the old unit and she just told me not to bother with it and do whatever I wanted to do with it. In about a week I received my new unit and just loving it. To find a company these days that stands behind their product as does DANBY, is above amazing. The employee was so great to talk too and was a pleasure. I will buy DANBY products whenever I can from now on and recommend them to anyone.

I bought this product for our 33 foot express cruiser and it fits the bill perfectly. Makes enough ice for drinks and for the beach cooler (if given enough time). Need to allow on an hour per bucket full minimum but unless you use a LOT of ice then it should work fine. Let it cycle through at least one fill up before using to get rid of the start up and plastic smell/taste. After that you are good to go!

the only thing that I do not like is having to clean the machine, that is because it takes away time that I have to make ice for us to eat . It is soft and easy to eat. I even take a container of ice with me to church because my mouth get so dry. and I just love my ice and easy Ice Machine and yes I have recomended it to many others that come into my home.

my elderly mom and i use it exclusively for ice supply. it easily keeps up with our demand. and, the price was right. (i shopped!) i'm drinking icewater almost exlusively this summer, and i expect that the unit might pay for itself that way.

before i bought it, i imagined a freezer-like storage for the cubes. you know... let the bin fill up and the cubes will stay there until you use them. not so... it is more like keeping ice in a bucket in your refrigerator. the cubes slowly melt. it might help a little if the unit's top had more insulation. (we drape a folded towel on it... a minor pain.) i realize that frozen storage would up the unit's cost, and i admit being pleased to be able to conserve electricity because there is no freezer compartment and by simply turning the unit off at night.

this may not be the experience for everyone, because i located the unit on a sheltered back porch so the heat it sheds won't go in the house. (we are a/c poor.) maybe if it were in the kitchen it wouldn't be such a pain to have to fill it often. In this Texas heat we fill it up to 5 times a day, and we have to carry water in a jar from the kitchen. i'm trying to figure out some sort of tubing-and-float-valve modification to keep the water reservoir full. a factory-designed option for this would be a minor cost, i bet.

I probably would not replace with the same brand. It does work well and in a timely manner, however the leaking water from the lower 'foot' area is quite bothersome and messy. Perhaps washer quality should be revised.

It broke the first week. The tray that pushes the ice into the ice bin would jam and the machine would shut down. Within a week the plastic pins holding the tray broke making the machine useless.

I had been using a NewAir. I ran it continuously for 1 year until the compressor went out. I decided to try a different brand - the Danby. A bad choice. These are all made by the same Chinese company so assemblies interchange even though pieces are different. I was able to put the NewAir tray assembly, which has a different tray attachment, into the Danby and it works OK.

Danby - one week; NewAir - one year. It's your choice.

We really like this product. We have found that it sometimes goes into fault mode for unknown reasons. We re-set the control and it works fine after that, doesn't really matter which size you are on for the fault to appear.
